Surface disinfection for heavily contaminated areas

Nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections are a significant problem in today's hospitals, and despite recent initiatives for deep-cleaning, still remain problematic. There are several methods to reduce contamination - the topical application of antiseptic agents, gas fumigation, ozone-based methods, electronic/physical air filtration and so on - but none has been found as reliably effective, quick and safe as the correct dose of UV-C radiation applied in a controlled manner.

Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) is a proven method for killing or deactivating bacteria, viruses, mould spores and other pathogenic microorganisms, and has long been successfully used in the Americas for hospital applications. Tru-D is a mobile unit designed for the safe high-intensity irradiation and disinfection of surfaces and heavily-contaminated rooms - for example, operating theatres, ICUs, or patient rooms/wards that have become contaminated. It is fitted with a safety cut-out, automatic dosing sensors and a remote wireless control.

How Tru-D works

Tru-D™ is a patented, mobile, automated room disinfection device.
Once activated by remote, UV-C sensors measure the UV-C germicidal
energy refl ected back to the unit from surfaces within the room. An
onboard CPU calculates the time required to disinfect all surfaces within
the room, including areas in primary shadows, and displays this information
on the handheld remote.

Door sensors deactivate the unit if anyone attempts to enter a room during the disinfection process.

Tru-D automatically powers down when the selected disinfection rate is reached. The room is now ready for immediate occupation and use.

3 to 6 log air and surface decontamination is achieved in only 20-30 minutes, depending upon the degree of decontamination required, the type of organisms suspected, and the room size and configuration. A secondary benefit is airborne microbial disinfection, and the removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
